Today while researching news on advancements in the field of nutrition, I came across an article called Coffee and tea could lessen risk of brain cancer. In the article, it states that the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found a correlation between drinking more than one cup of tea or coffee (100 ml) and the decrease risk of developing a brain tumor in a cohort study conducted in September 2010. However, when I read the actual AJCN article, the results section clearly stated that there were no "statistically significant" results between the two variables.
This is just one of the many examples of how the news misleads readers into believing certain health claims. I bet most people after reading this article started drinking gallons of tea and coffee every day. Whereas these drinks aren't necessarily unhealthy, this article is causing readers to hope for something that might not be true. Definitely a false belief!
Be careful what you read! Research more into health claims if you really want to know the truths behind them.
