The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act PASSED!

On December 2nd, the US House of Representatives passed The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act with a vote of 264 yes's and 157 no's. Yay! This Act is all about changing the nutritional content of school meals and allowing all children in poverty to get a nutritious meal each day. This act is going to change how school's teach and promote the importance of nutrition for years to come!

This act is going to:

-allow foster children to get automatic free meals
-increase the nutritional levels of school meals
-regulate the types of foods sold in schools
- fund $40 million dollars to schools to help establish school gardens and serve foods from local farmers

Times are changing. And they need to. Childhood obesity is one of the most rapidly rising health issue in western countries. We need this to end and this is where it starts!
